Homeless Well Being Project

Thanks to our Partners, homeless and near homeless adults and children gather at St. Francis Center's doorstep each morning for a hot breakfast, cold cup of water, milk, juice, hot coffee, doughnuts, fresh fruit and shelter from the blistering sun or wintry morning.

The Homeless visit St. Francis Center where they receive respect from staff and volunteers daily. Support St. Francis Center, fill their hunger, and promise that each person is welcomed with the dignity and respect we all deserve.

Breakfast

At 7:45am on Tuesday and Wednesday St. Francis Center employees and volunteers open the doors for breakfast. In recent months we have seen a surge in the number of people seeking a hot meal and a smile. We have come to welcome over 250 homeless individuals for breakfast each day we serve. Many of the men are day laborers and appreciate a hot meal to start the day. As each person leaves, they are handed sack lunches, which are also distributed during the day to homeless people who knock on our door.

Saturday offers a special experience for our guests and volunteers alike. Each Saturday, volunteers groups serve breakfast to the homeless. A special meal is always in store whether it be eggs, bacon, pancakes, fresh fruit, juice, coffee, water and desert, or a full holiday style meal.

As a former recipient of the Center’s services, and our retired head cook, Maria Inez Calleros, has a special place in her heart for the people she served. “Sometimes, I would find them huddled, freezing outside, waiting to come in. I felt so bad. So the first thing I did was make them some coffee so they could warm up.” With so many meals served each day we sure do serve a lot of coffee.

Hygiene:

The focus of St. Francis Center has always been improving the quality of life of every person it serves. It is a hard life for the homeless that are in and out of crowded shelters- working long hours and sometimes sleeping on the streets. St. Francis Center offers a safe haven on Thursday mornings where guests enjoy a hot cup of coffee and doughnuts, a place to read the paper, play checkers and socialize with friends. Guests also receive new socks and underwear, personal hygiene products and clothes.
