Temporary Programs Assistant
Tanya, one of our Temporary Program Assistants, hails from the East Bay Area and has been living in Los Angeles for about two years. They graduated with a B.A. in Spanish Literature and Culture from UC Davis, after which they worked in their hometown as a teacher before moving to Los Angeles to pursue other opportunities. Here, they worked several odd jobs while completing an A.S. in Computer Programming at Santa Monica College before turning over yet another leaf and working as a flying trapeze instructor at TSNY LA on the Santa Monica Pier, as well as a bike tour guide at Bike Center Santa Monica. Through it all, Tanya biked over to St. Francis Center every Wednesday morning for a year to serve breakfast and hope to the community. When the Safer At Home ordinance went into effect, Tanya lost both of their jobs, but kept coming to volunteer at St. Francis Center on Wednesday mornings. They were excited to apply and then be hired for the Temporary Program Assistant position, and they have been working the breakfast and pantry program since the third week of Safer At Home.
In their spare time, Tanya enjoys reading, writing, crafting, biking, cooking, and circus arts.
