Remembering Michael Jacobsen

Mike loved adventuring around LA, and telling us his stories!

Last week, we lost a proud volunteer and member of our St. Francis Center family. Michael Jacobsen passed away Sunday evening at the age of 52. From the start, Mike was an enthusiastic volunteer. He started to volunteer with us on Fridays for the breakfast and senior pantry programs. Near the end of his time with us, he was also volunteering every Wednesday for the breakfast program. He quickly earned a coveted place volunteering in the kitchen (he made an amazing pot of coffee, and ladled soup like no other), and eventually we dubbed Mike our “Lead Volunteer” during the senior program, where he helped to supervise and lead volunteers. Mike’s generosity and passion to help out didn’t stop there, however. Whenever we needed a hand or were short on volunteers, Mike was there to help. When our executive director, Marianne, was forming a group for a charity 5K run, Mike was the first to sign up. He was a fantastic person and volunteer, and we could always tell how proud he was to volunteer with us. I know that I speak for everyone at SFC when I say that we were lucky to have the time we had with him. Mike will be missed tremendously, but he will always be remembered in the work that we do.

If you have a story that you would like to share about Mike, please email us at volunteer@sfcla.org. We would love to hear it.
