MEET SFC’S NEWEST INTERN ~ Cesar!

Meet Cesar!

Cesar graduated from California State University of Dominguez Hills with a degree in sociology. We are excited to have him as our resources intern Monday – Thursday where he assists Aimee, our resource coordinator, with providing basic resources to our guests. Some of the things Cesar assists with are: helping guests with DMV ID vouchers, distributing hygiene kits and clean clothes, as well as resource referrals!

Tell us more about yourself!

I was born and raised in the South Bay (Lennox, Ca and Inglewood, Ca). I attended California State University of Dominguez Hills where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.

Where did you work before SFC?

I currently work full time at REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.) in Manhattan Beach, Ca. I am a Ski and Bike mechanic and also work on the retail sales side among many other things. I also teach classes on bike maintenance.

How did you hear about SFC?

I learned about SFC through Indeed and by researching NPOs in Los Angeles.

Why did you want to intern here? What specific skills are you excited to bring to your position at SFC?

I started off collecting donations from friends and family to give away to people who need it around town or on Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles. I felt like I was not doing enough to improve the lives of impoverished people in my community so I applied to SFC.

I am excited to share my enthusiasm for helping others in order to foster a feeling of social agency through support and a positive outlook on the prospects of life.

I accept that no one should have to live day to day without the basic necessities that most other people in Los Angeles benefit from. St. Francis Center is a place where someone can come in and get many of these resources and opportunities for a better life.

What about our mission appeals to you?

When I see a homeless person or someone who is going through hardship I imagine as if they were my brother or sister. I feel that Saint Francis Center exemplifies this idea which is what attracted me to this organization. I accept that no one should have to live day to day without the basic necessities that most other people in Los Angeles benefit from. St. Francis Center is a place where someone can come in and get many of these resources and opportunities for a better life.

What are your favorite pastimes?

I love being in nature and do many sports that allow me to enjoy it. Rock climbing outdoors, mountain biking, and hiking are my favorite. I also love to spend time with my two dogs, Emma and Ruby. Finally, I like to play guitar, and go on long drives through mountain roads when I have free time.
