SFC’s Volunteer Spotlight ~ Barbara!

Barbara has been volunteering every Wednesday for the past five months to serve breakfast to our homeless guests. Responding to our need for some additional support, she gladly offered to stay beyond her morning shift to also help with administrative tasks!

Barbara originally found out about St. Francis Center through her husband, Tim, who began volunteering almost six years ago for breakfast on the first Saturday of the month with St. Lawrence Martyr.

Why did you want to volunteer here?
I chose to volunteer at SFC because I was looking for a place to give back and I believe in SFC’s mission.

What is your favorite part about volunteering?
I love serving coffee on Wednesday morning, greeting the guests and learning their names. So far I know and remember 26 of our regular guests.

Are you involved in other ways through SFC?
My husband and I attend the Friends of St. Francis Center event in the fall and we make contributions in various ways throughout the year. We have made SFC our local charity that reaches out to the homeless and hungry in L.A.

What is your hope for the future of SFCLA and our community?
I hope St. Francis Center will continue to be a light of hope and outreach to the poor of L.A. and that the center’s donation base grows so that SFC will be able to expand its ministry as further needs are identified.
