Welcome, Brother Victor! Tell us a little about yourself!

Hi, My name is Victor Vega OFM. I am a Franciscan Friar from the Province of Banta Barbara, I live in a house which is part of the Assumption Church here in LA.

Why were you interested in working with the specific populations we serve?

I am interested in working with this population, because this work or ministry can give me the opportunity to see and serve the poor and people in need.

I am also interested to serve this specific population, because it can help me to learn about urban poverty and the homelessness situation.  I can use my experience and share my talents with others to make a difference in someone’s life.

As a Franciscan friar, I am also interested to bring more awareness about poverty which involves not only serving the people in need but being with the poor and connected with those who are most vulnerable.

What are you most excited about in this new role?

I am excited about this new role, because it is a great blessing and a good motivation for me to be part of this SFC family and work as a team. I am also grateful for the opportunity to work in this wonderful place at St. Francis Center as a Chaplain. I am excited to accompany our guests listening to them and learn from them.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my free time, I like to read spiritual books, listen to music or walk outside. For example, in a park or in the ocean. I also like to work in our garden because it helps me to relax.

I hope that our guests can see that we are here not only to provide food, but also to build a community and a place to share stories and lift the spirits of each other. I hope that the community can find a place of hope and peace in our SFC Center.

What is your hope for the future of SFC & our community?

My hope is that society around us can understand more the development of all the services and programs the SFC offers and the Franciscan values regarding the poor.

I hope we can create even more opportunities for spiritual services for the staff and for our guests.

I hope that our guests can see that we are here not only to provide food, but also to build a community and a place to share stories and lift the spirits of each other. I hope that the community can find a place of hope and peace in our SFC Center.

I hope that as a team we can develop a lifestyle that can bring us even more close to the poor and makes us more sensitive to those who are most vulnerable and with all who face discrimination of one way or another.

I hope that SFC team continues to do good work and make an impact by helping and fighting homelessness and poverty.

I hope to be a good instrument for the wonderful work and growth at St. Francis Center so we can provide even greater things happen here in the future full of hope.
